Thank you for your interest presenting an event at breathe books. We host over 40 events a month and we work hard to find the highest quality teachers, speakers and authors, as well as the right audience for you!
breathe books has two event spaces with separate entrances from the store, so that classes may begin before we open and continue after we close. You are also ensured complete privacy, should you require that, for your event.
breathing space is the yellow cottage behind the store. This space can seat up to 35 people and is ideal for readings, healing and energy work. The room is decorated with a beautiful mural and lit with gentle Japanese lamps.
second wind is located on the second floor, above the bookstore. This sunny and lovely lavender space seats over 40 people, has a small kitchen, and a bathroom. second wind has a flat-screen TV, projector, and DVD player available.
Both spaces have a CD player. We also have chairs and 30 zafus (meditation cushions) available for either space.
For events requiring space for over 40 people, we rent off-site venues. We will find the space, supply the books, arrange for any equipment needed, do promotion, and run the event. We have arranged and hosted events of over 500 people, and have sold books at events of over 2000 people. We are happy to be a bookseller at your conference, seminar or place of business. We can handle just about anything! References are proudly available upon request. Contracts for larger events are mandatory.

Every month we receive dozens of proposals. In order to ensure the best fit for both breathe books and the presenter, we need to receive a formal proposal from you. Note that we book events 3-6 months in advance. Please follow the guidelines listed below:

Include a description of what you would like to teach and how you present it. Be specific – tell me what students will learn, what materials will be presented, equipment needed, your qualifications, references, your name, telephone number, e-mail address, and home address. If you have a press kit, a book or a CD, please mail that to:

For emailed proposal attachments, please give your document YOUR name or the name of your business, NOT “breathe books proposal”, etc. We need to identify each attachment by YOUR name.
When sending the email, please do not send graphics, or use special fonts or colors. Send a simple word file.
If your event is appropriate for the store and we feel we can secure an interested audience, I will contact you. It may take 2-4 months to be considered for a spot in our schedule, but last-minute openings do occur.
If you are chosen you will need to provide a small write-up and mini-bio for your event listing on the web site and calendar copy.
Please don’t expect to be contacted right away after you submit your proposal. Due to the number of people who contact us, this is not possible. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Feel free to call three or four weeks after sending your proposal.
Readers, healers, energy workers, counselors, etc. will be asked to give a sample session so that we can see if your work is appropriate for the bookshop. We still need your proposal in writing and you will be contacted if you are considered. We do not allow people to use or rent our spaces if we are not familiar with their work. breathe books stands behind our presenters, practitioners and teachers, so rest assured that all have been vetted. If you are a practitioner, please be advised that we cannot schedule time for you to use our spaces unless we have experienced your modality with you first hand. No exceptions.
If you are chosen to present an event, we ask that you be responsible for marketing your class, in addition to all the promotion the books store does as well. Our promotions include:
- Listing on the web site, which is visited by over 30,000 people a month
- Listing on the hard copy of the calendar which is distributed to over 500 people in the area
- Included in press release to all local media
- Added to our Facebook and Twitter pages (over 4000 subscribers)
- Offered for listings in local news paper events calendars
- Included in email newsletter sent twice a month to over 5000 people
- In-store promotion
Weeknight evening events are from approximately 7-8:30 pm. Saturday workshops can begin at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. Sunday classes begin after noon.
We ask our presenters to be willing to have a minimum of 4 people for their event. We usually have more than this, but there are no guarantees.
In most cases, breathe books collects the cost of the class and pays the presenter a 60%-40% split (60% to the presenter). We are open to negotiation and barter.
Please note that we do not do any promotion if you are just renting one of our spaces. Feel free to contact us for rental fees and options. Rates begin at $100 a day in most cases.
